C’était une confluence de nombreux événements différents qui ont conduit à une petite entreprise familiale appelée Lytha Studios. C’était en partie être au bon endroit au bon moment, en partie une passion pour le travail indépendant mélangée au commerce, et en partie un doux petit tourtereau nommé Lytha.
J’étais au bon endroit au bon moment - Virginia Tech - 1993 - juste au moment où le World Wide Web était en train de naître. Là, j’ai appris le HTML et comment créer du contenu pour le WWW. Au cours de ma première année, j’ai commencé une petite entreprise en créant des sites Web de magasins. Bientôt, j’ai créé mon propre site pour mes bijoux en perles de graines. Il n’a jamais vendu une seule chose. Jamais.
Finalement, j’ai commencé à fabriquer des bijoux en perles de pierres précieuses, qui se sont incroyablement vendus. Je l’ai augmenté avec des cadeaux à thème celtique, et mon « dot com » était officiellement vivant.
À cette époque, je me marie aussi! C’était l’été entre ma première et ma dernière année, et mon meilleur ami et mon amour le plus cher et moi nous sommes mariés après une parade nuptiale de cinq ans. Ce gars barbu à gauche là-bas - il est mon chéri depuis que nous avons seize ans.
Quelle est la place de Lytha ? Partout (naturellement), ce que n’importe quel tourtereau vous dira est comme il se doit. Eric et moi avons acheté Lytha environ un an avant notre mariage. Nous l’avons emmenée partout où nous sommes allés. Je voulais travailler à domicile pour qu’elle ait de la compagnie toute la journée. Elle était la reine de la maison, adorée par les humains (encore une fois, comme il se doit), et nommer l’entreprise d’après elle semblait être la chose la plus naturelle à faire.
Au moment où j’ai obtenu mon diplôme et célébré mon premier anniversaire, Lytha Studios réalisait des bénéfices, et mes plans d’obtenir un diplôme d’études supérieures en mathématiques se sont transformés en plans pour faire de Lytha Studios le petit magasin le plus génial sur Internet. J’enseignais du HTML et de la fabrication de bijoux au YMCA local, et je passais le temps de ma vie avec mon mari, mes oiseaux et ma petite boutique.
Et le reste appartient à l’histoire ! Lytha Studios a changé au fil du temps - se détournant lentement d’être axé sur les cadeaux et revenant à ses racines avec des perles et des fournitures de bijoux. La place de Lytha a été héritée par plusieurs chatons bien-aimés et une fille golden retriever tapageuse (Mattie).
Eric et moi avons récemment célébré notre vingt-cinquième anniversaire de mariage - et à quel point nous sommes chanceux avec notre fils, nos enfants à fourrure et notre petite entreprise familiale qui nous permet d’être tous ensemble tout le temps.

It was a confluence of many different events that lead to a little family business called Lytha Studios. It was partly being in the right place at the right time, partly a passion for self employment mixed with commerce, and partly a sweet little lovebird named Lytha.
I was in the right place at the right time - Virginia Tech - 1993 - just as the World Wide Web was being born. There I learned HTML and how to create content for the WWW. In my junior year, I started a little business creating shop websites. Soon, I created a site of my own for my seed bead jewelry. It never sold a single darn thing. Ever.
Eventually, I started making gemstone beaded jewelry, which amazingly did sell. I augmented it with Celtic themed gifts, and my "dot com" was officially alive.
Around this time, I also go married! It was the summer between my junior and senior year, and my best friend and dearest love and I married after a five year courtship. That bearded guy off to the left there - he's been my sweetie since we were sixteen.
Where does Lytha fit in? Everywhere (naturally), which any lovebird will tell you is just as it ought to be. Eric and I bought Lytha about a year before we married. We took her anywhere we went. I wanted to work from home so she would have company all day. She was the queen of the house, worshiped by the humans (again, as it ought to be), and naming the business after her seemed like the most natural thing to do.
By the time I earned my degree, and celebrated my first anniversary, Lytha Studios was turning a profit, and my plans of getting an advanced degree in mathematics morphed into plans to make Lytha Studios the awesomest little shop on the Internet. I was teaching classes on HTML and jewelry making at the local YMCA, and having the time of my life with my hubby, my birds, and my little shop.
And the rest is history! Lytha Studios has changed over time - slowly turning away from being gift oriented and going back to its roots with beads and jewelry supplies. Lytha's place has been inherited by several beloved kitties and one rowdy golden retriever girl (Mattie).
Eric and I have recently celebrated our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary - and how lucky we are with our son, our furry kids, and our little family business that lets us all be together all the time.
